Education & Experience

Laura received her undergraduate degree in 2003 from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, graduating Summa Cum Laude and with distinction in her major (English). She was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa during her final year of college. After graduation, Laura went on to work as a paralegal at Latham & Watkins, LLP, in their Silicon Valley offices and later attended U.C. Hastings College of the Law, graduating with her J.D. in 2008. During Law School, Laura was a summer associate at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, as well as a law clerk (and later a contract attorney) in the office of the San Mateo County Counsel. Laura joined the employment law firm of Camerlengo & Johnson in 2009, where she became a named Partner in 2010 prior to starting her own firm with fellow Hastings’ alum Katie Bain.

Laura has been first chair in a number of jury trials including both personal injury and employment law cases.  She is licensed to practice in both Federal and State Courts.

Writings & Publications

While at Hastings, Laura was the Executive Articles Editor of the Hastings Women’s Law Journal and recipient of the Roger J. Traynor Student Writing Competition Award for her Note “On the Steps of the Mosque: the Legal Rights of Non-Marital Children in Egypt” (19.1 Hastings Women’s L.J. 121 (2008)), inspired by her experiences living in Cairo, Egypt from 1994-1999.

Laura has co-written a number of articles with her law Partners, including “The Equal Opportunity Bully” published in Plaintiff magazine in June 2015, “Feminist Firms And The Pursuit Of Happiness For Lawyer Parents” published in Plaintiff magazine in June 2016. “Think You’re Protected When You Need Leave? Think Again!” published in Plaintiff magazine in June 2017, and “California’s New Ban The Box Law – A Step Forward in Battling Racial Inequality in the Workplace” published in Plaintiff magazine in May 2018.

Membership

Laura is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the California Employment Lawyer’s Association (CELA), and served as co-chair of the San Mateo County Bar Association’s (SMCBA) Labor and Employment Law Section from January 2013 to January 2017. She has served on the SMCBA’s Board of Directors since 2018 and is currently serving as President. She is also one of the co-founders of the non-profit Attorneys Bettering the Community (ABC) (www.abcoutreach.org).

Additional

When not working, Laura enjoys singing and playing the guitar and drums. She is also a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster youth and wards of the state.  She has also become adept at “fighting bad guys” with her son Zachary (elementary schooler) and daughter Olivia (toddler), specifically targeting Darth Vader, Jabba the Hutt, zombies, and other “mean people.”
